2017-2018

Please consider booking interdisciplinary, Bronx based artist Kilusan Bautista for campus programming activities during the 2017/2018 academic year.  Kilusan has performed at colleges and universities throughout the country since 2001 as a spoken word artist with 8th Wonder (a Filipino American poetry collective from the Bay Area, California).  From 2010-2015, Kilusan toured his first one man production entitled UNiVERSALself in over 80 venues worldwide.  UNiVERSALself discusses cultural identity for Asian Americans in urban America through the genre of Hip Hop Theatre.  Since 2012, Kilusan has used performance excerpts from UNiVERSALself as a Teaching Artist/Vendor in New York City public schools, specifically striving to support students who have been disenfranchised from traditional educational settings.  Recently, Kilusan has created his second solo production known as TRANSCEND which examines his personal experiences with housing rights, homelessness and gentrification in Brooklyn, NY.
.
If your campus is interested in booking Kilusan to perform UNiVERSALself, please keep in mind that he travels with one technician for this 60-minute production.  If you are interested in booking Kilusan to perform TRANSCEND, this 60-minute production requires two technicians: a Visual Artist and Music Composer.  In addition, Kilusan provides highly interactive 1-hour to 2-hour workshops, professional development trainings and events consultations that focus on developing student equity through personal narrative work and cross cultural exchange.  Thank you for your consideration and Kilusan looks forward to building a strong partnership with you!
.
Kilusan Bautista grew up in the Mission District of San Francisco, California during the golden era of Hip Hop culture.  He believes in the power of intersectional politics to develop truly democratic spaces and opportunities.  Kilusan is the proud father of a beautiful baby girl, Phoenix Augusta Bautista, whom he dedicates the 2017/2018 academic year to.
